The BMC has put £10,000 to support the care and maintenance of crags in England and Wales through the creation of a new Crag Care Fund. Half of this initial funding will go towards essential works at BMC owned and managed crags, including Horseshoe Quarry, Craig y Longridge, Bwlch y Moch. The other £5000 will go towards Area projects throughout England and Wales.

We lobby locally and nationally to bring these issues to the attention of Government and Stakeholders to ensure the continual enjoyment of the outdoors and to protect the rights of all climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers.

The condition of fixed equipment on many of our classic routes has reached a terrible state. On some routes the corroded or damaged bolts are over 20 years old. Some climbs are now unclimbable in the manner that the first ascentionist intended. So what are we doing about it?...

Across continental Europe, it's the done thing to clip the lower-off with your own karabiners or quickdraws if you are planning on top roping the route. This saves wear and tear on the lower-off bolts, particularly if you are repeatedly practicing the moves prior to a redpoint attempt. Unfortunately, in the UK, this message doesn't seem to have filtered through to everyone. ...

The North Wales Bolt Fund held a bolting workshop on Wed 18th July at Bus Stop Quarry. Despite the best sunny weather for over a week, more than 20 local climbers attended (although most managed to sneak a couple of routes in before and after!). Dan Middleton, BMC Technical Officer, was on hand to record the action, and also to hand over the first batch of free BMC bolts from the Better Bolts Campaign.
