Crag information
Climbing Area: North East Rock Type: Sandstone
Importance: Local CRoW Land: Yes
Ownership: Estate No. of Routes: 10

Much of the crag is loose and unappealing although there are several cleaner buttresses offering single pitch lines. A long rigging rope is recommended to add scope for constructing anchors.

Parking and Approach

Take the single track road at NZ604092 some couple of hundred metres west of Kildale. Follow it for 3km passing below the popular Park Nab and continue up the hill  and on to the moor. At a sharp left hand bend there is parking for several cars. Take the Cleveland Way directly ahead for approximately 500m. The crag is a couple of hundred metres over to the right, a descent can be made with care at its right hand end looking out.

CRoW Information

There were historic access issues but these have been overcome by the crag's inclusion on Open Access Land.

Open access land, designated under the Countryside & Rights of Way Act (2000) give area access rather than linear access as provided by public rights of way. It also gives a legal right of access specifically for climbing, as well as walking and other quiet recreation on foot.

Please bear in mind however that the landowner still has the right to restrict access for up to 28 days per year (often used on public safety grounds for shooting in moorland areas), and can also apply for longer term restrictions with Natural England (such as bans on dogs, or regular restrictions during particular times of year). It is important to check for these restrictions regularly as they can be added at short notice – all details for open access land in England can be found on Natural England’s website.

No Dogs (except guide, hearing or assistance dogs)
