Coxsey finishes fifth in Chongqing

China girl: Shauna Coxsey in action

As interest in climbing's bid for Olympic status builds, the World Cup season gets underway in China. Three British women made the trip -- and they all did well.

Following her win at the Climbing Works International Festival (CWIF) at the start of March, Shauna Coxsey’s great form has continued in the Chinese city of Chongqing as she finished the final in fifth place. Mina Leslie-Wujatyk finished the semi-finals in 10th position and Diane Merrick finished 19th overall.

Shauna failed to get to the top of the first problem in the finals and this ultimately proved costly. Her only top of the final came on the second problem, enough to finish in fifth place.

The event was won by Anna Stöhr of Austria and the men's event Dmitri Sharafutdinov of Russia who both topped all four problems in the final.

You can stay up to date with results with the IFSC Boulder app for smartphones.

The GB climbers currently in China are:

Shauna Coxsey, age 20, from Runcorn (world ranking = 3)

Mina Leslie-Wujastyk, age 25, Sheffield (world ranking = 22)

Diane Merrick, aged 33, Sheffield (world ranking = 53)

The Senior British Bouldering Team is supported by Sherpa Adventure Gear and Lonsdale China
