The 2020 GB Climbing National Development Squad

Take a look at the update on the GB National Development Squad for 2021 whilst we navigate the easing of lockdown.

What an unprecedented year! As soon as the 2020 Squad were ready to begin competing in the 2020 International season, a global pandemic took over and changed all our plans. We hope that you and your families and keeping well and staying safe.

Since the International season has been massively disrupted and the National Competition schedule barely got started, we have had to consider the selection processes for the 2021 GB National Development Squad.

To begin the review of the 2021 selection policy we sent a survey to the current squad for their thoughts and we would now like to extend this consultation to athletes and parents who are not currently squad members, but who would like to input into the review.

We have created a survey with some of the key points that have been raised from the first stage of the consultation and would appreciate your thoughts. Please do complete the survey by the 14th July 2020 and if you have anything further you would like to add please do email me at lucinda@thebmc.co.uk

We want to say a big thanks to every BMC member who continues to support us through the Coronavirus crisis.

From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t do it without you.

Did you know that we've just launched a new U27 membership offer for just £1 / month? And with full membership from £1.66 / month, it's never been easier to join and support our work:

Multi-award winning Climbing Blind on BBC4 this Wednesday

Last year, blind climber Jesse Dufton led every pitch of the classic East Face Route (E1 5b) on the Old Man of Hoy, placing all his own gear. Renowned adventure filmmaker Alastair Lee made a cracking film, supported by Montane and BMC TV, based around the ascent, which has been scooping up awards and is, amazingly for a climbing film, going to be shown on British telly. To top off the good news story, Jesse has just won a BMC Volunteer Award.
