The BMC provided financial aid to 16 expeditions taking place in 2012, offered 'approval' to several more teams and, for the third year running, made a Julie Tullis Memorial Award.
UIAA issue anchor corrosion warning
The UIAA Safety Commission has issued an update to a warning notice originally sent out in 2009, regarding the danger of environmental degradation of bolt anchors. This update warns that the problem is more widespread than originally thought.
BMC Open Youth Winter Competition: Lead and Bouldering  updated
The BMC Open Youth Winter Lead Event will be held at Awesome Walls, Liverpool on 8 December. There will also be a brand-new bouldering-only event at the Climbing Hangar, Liverpool on 9 December. Both competitions are designed to be fun but competitive.
Activity licence abolition ‘paused’
With Scotland following Wales in opting to keep the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority, the Health and Safety Executive have announced a ‘pause’ in plans to abolish it in England.
Julian Materna's last ride
The Peak Area activist and Sheffield climber Julian Materna died last Saturday after a long battle with cancer. As an access rep with his wife Trudi, who also served as secretary of the Peak Area, Julian put a huge amount of effort and time into Peak District climbing. Despite his illness, he continued to climb and bike near his home and in France, which he loved.
