Student Safety Seminar 2021

This year's BMC Student Safety Seminar will be held over two weekends, with a webinar day of workshops on Saturday 2nd October and a choice of practical workshops running in areas of England and Wales on Saturday 9th October.

Webinar day, Saturday 2nd October 

This will look at managing risk, examples and discussions of serious incidents. There will then be a choice from four workshops for the morning and four in the afternoon with the day finishing around 14.30.

The workshops on this day include

Equipment care and maintenence

Incident management

Clubs and SU policy

Club Transport

Mountain First Aid

Introduction to teaching novices hill skills

Introduction to teaching novices belaying

Climbing for all: Disability awareness in climbing 

 

Practical day, Saturday 9th October

There will be workshops running in the Lake District, Peak District, North Wales and Devon. These workshops will start at 10.00 and finish at 17.00pm.

The workshops on this day include:

Single Pitch Rock Climbing (Looking after novices, belay building, bottom roping)

Hill and Mountain Skills (navigation, equipment, group management)

Self Rescue (escaping the system, problem solving)

Multi-pitch rock climbing (taster and key skills)

Scrambling (Guidebooks, equipment, group management)

The workshops will be delivered by qualified and experienced volunteers and instructors, from Doctors and Mountain Leaders to Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors, with the main costs of the course going towards their expenses for helping on the seminar. People keen on volunteering at the event please email james@thebmc.co.uk

This Seminar will cost £10 for a student from a BMC afilliated club and £20 for students from non-BMC clubs. The cost includes both days.
