Over the weekend of 8th-9th October 2022 we will be holding the first Volunteers Gala Weekend to celebrate our volunteers, provide training and networking opportunities and host a Gala Meal on the Saturday evening which will include the presentation of awards to volunteers for 2020-2022.
We’d love you to join us!
This weekend will be at the University of Warwick, near Coventry and is open to any BMC member who volunteers their time in BMC activities, including
-
specialist committee members;
-
locally elected volunteer roles and local area reps;
-
environmental, access and conversation work;
-
competitions and talent;
-
hill-walking leaders and youth event leaders;
-
climbing wall reps;
-
event organisers (including festivals).
In addition, we will also accept applications from any BMC member who is considering becoming a volunteer but we will not be able to guarantee places until we know the total number of applicationsfrom volunteers.
The BMC will be covering the attendees cost of the training, meals (including the Gala Meal) and overnight accommodation. In order to allow more members to attend we are requesting that if you are able you cover your own travel you do so, but the BMC will cover your travel if you request it.
If you want to bring a partner with you they are very welcome to attend but there will be a charge for those who aren’t volunteers.

Saturday 8th Afternoon
We will be offering training to cover:

Understanding & using social media
-
Access Negotiations
-
Understanding equity, diversity & inclusion
-
Using online systems (Zoom, Teamwork etc.)
-
Chairing effective meetings
-
Dealing with the media
Saturday 8th Evening
Dinner with a guest speaker and celebrating the winners of our volunteer awards from 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Sunday 9th Morning
On the Sunday there will also be the Specialist Committee Review where BMC Specialist Committee Chairs and associated staff will report on the activities from 2022 and present their forward plans for 2023. This is a great opportunity to see what the BMC does and comment on the plans for the future.
Even if you aren’t on one of these groups you are still very welcome to join this meeting to find out more about the activities of the BMC.
