Access & Conservation is the BMC's most important area of work, affecting every climber, hill walker and mountaineer in the country. Much of the work is unseen - the results simply being the continued freedom to walk and climb in wild and unspoilt places.

Occasionally, crags and rock faces can be compared to fallen actors and musicians. One minute they are ‘right up there’ in the ‘A-list’ popularity stakes with everyone wanting a slice of the action. Next minute, no bugger gives a toss and they fall from grace, losing their identity and role.
Parking in Snowdonia - Unlocking the Green Key?
For many years the parking and transport situation for climbers and hill walkers in northern Snowdonia has become increasingly difficult as increasing numbers of people and cars compete for limited parking spaces. "Green Key" was supposed to be the scheme that solved these issues. Has it worked?

The Death of the Snowdon Lily?
Ice tools are being sharpened, the ice has formed, and for the first time in many years there are hordes of people climbing some seriously hard mixed routes. It’s great to see so many Welsh routes in nick for the first time in many years, and the possibilities of what can be achieved with modern tools are only limited by imagination (and possibly ability!).
Walking, climbing and your dog - good practice advice
Many BMC members enjoy taking their dog for a walk and to the crag but increasingly, there is a growing awareness of the need to preserve and conserve the fragile landscapes we love to visit with our furry companions along with an increasing amount of advice and legislation governing what we should and shouldn’t do.
