Hayne Down

Dartmoor

Collection of good boulder problems. Avoid climbing on the Bowerman's Nose, as this is still banned. Some of the best problems are on a collection of rocks reached by skirting to the right (south) of the two main collections of boulders. The main feature of this area is a large roof at 8ft which is climbed on the right by Salad Fingers (V6) and in the centre by Hubert Cumberdale (V4?).

Parking and Approach

From Haytor direction head for Hound Tor. Instead of taking the right to the Hound Tor car park continue for about 10m and take a narrow lane on the right. Just after a gate park on the edge of the road. You can see the boulders from here... As the sign on the gate says - Don't climb on the Bowerman's Nose.
Area information

Part of the Dartmoor National Park is used by the MoD for training and live-firing exercises. It also offers a wealth of excellent hillwalking and numerous Tors, some of which still have the potential for new climbing development – especially wild bouldering. The Defence Estates endeavour to support public access (without compromising public safety and military training) and have produced a website with the important safety info and firing times. Follow this link http://www.dartmoor-ranges.co.uk/ for the Dartmoor training area homepage and links to detailed info.
