Craig Eithin

Snowdonia

A small crag, of surprisingly good quality and facing south makes for a good sun trap on quick drying rock,  Craig Eithin, also known as Waen Hir Slab, is the outcrop of reddish rock about 300 metres north of Waen Hir, the hut of the Yeti Club. It has an open location with panoramic views and some good single pitches at around VS standard. The highest part of the crag is to the left of the central vegetated area, and gives pitches up to 25 metres, with good friction and numerous pockets. Belays are scarce at the top of the crag: a couple of boulders on the reverse slope are the best option. Approach: From St Curig’s church in Capel Curig, follow the track that leads to the Crafnant valley. After about a kilometre of walking, the upper part of the slab is seen in the distance. When closer, bear right until at the crag. Following one of the ribs makes for a drier approach.
