Two BMC affiliated clubs have received over £90,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund for the renovation and modernisation of local sports facilities.

Bromsgrove & Redditch Mountaineering Club received £40,719 towards the regeneration of its club hut in Tremadog, with the aim of making it more accessible to a wider range of users, and enhancing the experience for the broad base of existing users.  The club aims to improve access to North Wales and Snowdonia National Park for groups based in the Midlands by providing a climbing hut with modern facilities and by increasing its links to the local community and education sector.

The hut is located at the foot of the BMC-owned and managed Craig Bwlch Y Moch. To celebrate this award the club is planning to hold an autumn taster session event. If you are interested in attending the event, please express your interest via the club website

Lancashire Mountaineering Club secured £50,000, to help complete the construction of Cae Ysgubor, the club's new hut in Beddgelert. It is anticipated that the hut will help the club both to encourage young people to get into mountaineering as well as to provide a base for other outdoor activity groups and the local community.

Club Chairman, Roger Gott, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can complete the construction of the hut to the highest standard to encourage more people into mountaineering. It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have outstanding facilities available for our members, other clubs and the local community.”

The clubs represent just two of more than 300 projects across England receiving lottery investment in the latest round of funding. This week Sport England revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.

Funding extension announced

Many more communities are now set to benefit from the fund, after Sport England announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest.

Sport England’s Chair, Nick Bitel, said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in the UK. With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.”

Whether you are a club, local authority, school or parish council you can apply for funding to help you improve your facilities. Bids will be accepted for the next round of Inspired Facilities funding from 21 October 2013. To find out more about the programme visit the dedicated Inspired Facilities website
