Event Director - World Climbing Series Manchester 2027 & World Para Climbing Series Manchester 2027 (Contractor Position)

We are seeking an experienced Event Director to lead the strategic and operational planning and delivery of the World Climbing Lead, Speed and Para-climbing World Cup Manchester 2027.

The primary role of the Event Director is to ensure that Manchester delivers the best World Cup event for climbing, furthering the city’s reputation as a global city for sport and events. As such, we are looking for a dynamic and creative Event Director with exceptional leadership and project management skills.

You will be accountable not only for delivering a world-class event but also for bringing to life a broader range of impacts for the sport and the city of Manchester.

Volunteer opportunities at the BMC

ShAFF Wildfire Campaign Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to raise awareness of the BMC's 'Protect the Eastern Moors from Wildfire’ fundraiser and sponsored Wildfire Challenge Walk.

We would like volunteers to engage with individuals attending the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) which takes place 22nd & 23rd March.

Volunteer Coach Accreditations

Applications are now open to apply to be a volunteer GB Climbing Accredited Coach. Accredited coaches will support GBR athletes and the BMC (as the National Governing Body of the sport) on the World Climbing international competition support. The coaches will provide effective athlete support in all competition environments, both front and back of house whilst also supporting every athlete, regardless of their affiliation, fostering a unified and supportive team environment.

Applications open Monday 12 January and will close Sunday 8 February 2026.

Skimo Sponsorship Volunteer

This volunteer position is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly GB Skimo Steering Group, who are developing Skimo Racing in the GB from grass roots to managing the GB Team. You would be developing sponsorship opportunities for GB Skimo.

BMC Volunteer opportunities

Area volunteers undertake vital roles in the democratic structure of the BMC and the work we do on behalf of members and the wider climbing, hill walking and mountaineering community. Each of the ten BMC Areas (eight in England, two in Wales) holds an Area AGM, at which elections for a range of volunteer roles are held, and outside of these meetings, members can be co-opted into roles. Currently, we have a number of vacant roles.
