Celebrity team summits Kilimanjaro

What a 'comic' relief to get to the top! All nine Big Red Nose Climb celebrities reached the summit of Kilimanjaro in their attempt to raise over £1m for charity.

On Thursday, the team reached the summit on day 7 of their climb and were exhausted but elated by their achievement.  Some of the team experienced altitude sickness along the way but took precuations and finally made it to the summit.

You can watch clips of the trek on the BBC Red Nose Day website. Also find out how hard it is to climb Kilimanjaro in a BBC article with quotes from the BMC's Jon Garside. For more information on how to keep healthy at altitude click here.

The BMC wonders whether any of the celebrity summiteers will now be hooked on hill walking and be keen to try out other aspects of climbing and mountaineering.

After the week-long slog, Ronan Keating joked that he was going to change his phone number so that Gary Barlow, whose idea it was to climb Kilimanjaro, couldn't get hold of him in future!

Here's Ed Douglas's take on it in the Guardian.
