Chudleigh Rocks! (It sure do)

Posted by Martin Kocsis on 22/10/2007
There's more where this came from!

During the successful July meeting of S.W.A.T. (South West Action Team), the locals decided to get to grips with the litter, ivy and encroaching vegetation at Chudleigh.

The clean-up will begin at 1030 on Saturday 27th October. The aim of the day is to remove litter, ivy and  encroaching tree branches along the crag to improve conditions for both climbing and important lichens. Cake will be provided for those who make it along to the event.

The site is an SSSI because of rare lichens. Local activists recently held a site meeting with Natural England to ensure that the proposed day of action is acceptable in a legal sense, and beneficial to the lichens, as well as climbers.

You can find the crag here with further information and directions here.

Ben Hall & Mark Glaister have been instrumental in getting permissions for this day to go ahead...much obliged to you, gentlemen!

Come along with your climbing gear, some gardening gloves, abseil gear and some secateurs and join in the action. After the event, we'll be gathering in a local pub to celebrate our success with beer and butties. We will then make further plans for the group.

(Drop me a line to let me know that you will be coming so I can get the catering about right)
