GB Climbing Talent Hub Scheme
A key objective of the BMC Talent Development strategy is to develop grass roots and regional talent systems
through targeted performance coach education, which forms the backbone of GB Climbing Talent Development.
The GB Climbing Talent Hub Scheme was presented at the ABC conference 28th June 2019, which will provide a
direct link between walls, squads and GB Climbing.
Key Elements of the Scheme
- The scheme will facilitate collaboration between GB Climbing and climbing walls/squads around the country, especially at a local and regional level.
- It will support athletes and parents who are asking to be signposted to coaches and walls who are delivering high quality coaching to aid their development and performance.
- The scheme will highlight the areas that can be developed through targeted coach education so that we can continue to develop the skills of our coaching workforce.
- This scheme will enable us to help walls / coaching providers customise their own coach education needs.
- The BMC Performance Profiling system has been developed over the last 6 years and we are now delivering training courses in this system.
- Coaches can now begin to actively use the BMC Profiling Toolkits within their coaching practices and be able to track athlete progression and identify areas for development.
- The Physical Profiling Toolkit pilot has been delivered to 25 coaches, with autumn courses almost fully booked. 2020 will see the development of further tools kits in other areas of performance – for example Technical and Tactical Toolkits.
- The BMC is now ready to alpha test a data system whereby coaches can enter profiling data results allowing athletes and coaches to view their profiles and track athlete development and performance. This will be expanded in 2020 to include other profiling areas, performance logs and ranking data.
- This will be available for use to all GB Climbing Talent Hubs – 2019 Talent Hubs will be invited to be part of the alpha testing of the system.
Benefit to Walls and Coaches
- Customers (independent users and parents) can be assured that they and their children are part of a safe and inclusive climbing community.
- Customers can be sure the wall / coaching provider is striving to offer the best in talent development provision and is of the high quality associated with GB Climbing
- A Talent Hub finder, which will allow customers to search for GB Climbing Talent Hubs, is currently being developed and will be located on the BMC website
- By striving to achieve the highest standards walls / coaching providers are more likely to attract more users and build sustainability.
- Climbing walls and coaching providers will have dedicated marketing materials which they can use across multiple media platforms.
- Climbing walls and coaching providers will have access to the BMC Performance Profiling Courses, App and further coach education courses and materials.
