Mountain Rescue seeks external trustee

The Board of Trustees for Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW) is seeking to appoint an External Trustee.

Applications are sought from candidates who are not existing members of MREW or its Mountain Rescue Teams. The post of External Trustee is voluntary and unpaid.

Background

Mountain Rescue England & Wales is a registered charity with the primary object of both co-ordinating and providing support for volunteer Mountain Rescue in England and Wales. It also promotes the exchange of information and the development of best practice amongst the Mountain Rescue Teams to ensure effective and safe rescue and recovery of persons in need of assistance on the hills and mountains of England and Wales.

Role of the Board of Trustees

It is the role of the Board of Trustees to oversee the management, funding and development of the charity to help ensure that it meets the requirements of the Charities Commission, the wider membership and the expectations of the general public.

The Board of Trustees will do this by regularly and systematically reviewing all the activities of the charity against the model of a good charity as laid down by the Commission.

Applicants

Those wishing to apply should have:

  • Significant experience of strategic level management in either financial, legal or organisational risk management and/or;
  • Significant experience on a board, governing body or other charity governance.
  • An understanding of mountain or cave rescue and the wider UK SAR framework.

Applications

Applications must be made in the form of a curriculum vita together with a supporting statement of their commitment to section 7 of the Code of Governance; evidence of their experience and skills as required by section 8 of the Code of Governance; and how their experience and skills will contribute to the success of the Charity.

Applications must be sent to the Assistant Secretary MREW to arrive no later than 20 March 2013.
