Wild Country issue recall of Rocks - updated 12/12/2013

Recalled WC Rocks

Gear manufacturer Wild Country has announced a recall of Classic Rocks and Anodised Rocks. The recall affects certain batches which may have been purchased at any time after 2010.

After an incident in which a Wild Country Rock failed, an investigation by the manufacturer concluded that some other units might possibly not reach the required strength. In order not to expose users to any potential risk, Wild Country have voluntarily issued a recall covering units which may be affected.

In order to ascertain whether you have any of the affected units, read and follow the advice issued by Wild Country:

Voluntary Recall - Rocks and Classic Rocks - Issued 07/10/2013

In addition, Wild Country issued this news update on 12/11/2013

Further update issued on 12/12/2013:

Martin Atkinson, Wild Country Managing Director issued the following statement about the Rock recall:

"Following the last update in mid November we have dispatched replacement product to non-European countries such as North America and Australia. We have also continued to ramp up production and have now built up considerable stocks, the CE certification has been issued and we are preparing packages for shipment to customers in Europe and the UK. This means we should have the majority of rocks returned to us replaced prior to Christmas.

It has been quite a journey to get to this stage and I would really like to apologise once again for the delay and inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience and understanding."

18th December and STILL waiting for replacement of my affected set of classic rocks, guess what? no communication from Wild Country at all, the fact that they have already sent out replacements to overseas customers as a priority and have not even emailed people in their home country to keep them up to date simply adds insult to injury. I am disapointed to say the least and will give Wild Country a very wide birth in future.

I can understand your frustration waiting for your kit - it does look as though WC are resolving this as best they can though. It won't have been quick or easy for them to move production to a different continent, recertify and then make up three years worth of replacement Rocks. I'd have to agree with their plan to ship abroad first, transit time means everyone will likely get their replacements around the same time.

Whilst i understand why WC acted in the way they did, I will never again buy WC equipment. I can appreciate the need to recall however when I have had other items recalled, it has not taken 2-3 months to get the items replaced. This is very poor on their part.
