Women’s Climbing Symposium rocks up in London

Posted by Elizabeth Holley on 16/08/2013

The Women’s Climbing Symposium returns for a third year, as it moves from Liverpool to London. This all-female climbing event is dedicated to connecting, developing and inspiring women in climbing, and takes place at The Arch Climbing Wall on Saturday 2 November.

The symposium, previously held at The Climbing Hangar in Liverpool in 2011 and 2012, is a day event providing coaching by elite female climbers, workshops on training, nutrition and injury prevention as well the opportunity to listen to keynote speakers on a variety of subjects – from the trials and tribulations of competition climbing to representation of women in the climbing media.

Along with a new venue comes a new website and Facebook page

The symposium is the brainchild of Shauna Coxsey, three-time British Bouldering Champion and ranked no.3 in the world, and Stephanie Meysner, Ashtanga Yoga teacher and co-owner of The Climbing Hangar.

Their mission was to create an environment that was welcoming to women from every background and all abilities, and share best practice in climbing techniques and training methods, so that women can leave the event better informed, inspired and well connected to other female climbers all around the world.

The 2013 line-up of coaches includes:

  • Shauna Coxsey
  • Leah Crane
  • Suzan Dudink
  • Ellie Howard
  • Katherine Schirrmacher
  • Audrey Seguy
  • Emma Twyford
  • Lucinda Whittaker

Exploring the female climbing experience through lectures are:

  • Fran Brown
  • Rebecca Dent
  • Emma Flaherty
  • Ella Kirkpatrick
  • Mina Leslie-Wujastyk
  • Eva Lopez
  • Siobhan Miller
  • Jen Randall
  • Anna Rigge
  • Angela Soper
