Posted by BMC Office on 02/03/2021

Are you passionate about the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers? Do you want to volunteer to share your knowledge & experience whilst working with great people? If you have commitment, energy and enthusiasm, now is your chance to give something back.

At the 2021 BMC AGM, taking place on Saturday 15 May, elections will be held for some new and existing roles on National Council and the BMC Board of Directors.

National Council

National Council will be renamed Members' Council, subject to approval at the 2021 AGM.

New Roles

Nationally Elected Councillors
Constituency Councillors

The National Council is the representative body for the BMC’s members. It has spent the past two years reviewing how to be more representative and as such is expanding the members’ voice through the creation of six new councillor positions.  These new councillors will champion their areas, and work with the Council, BMC committees and other volunteers to ensure that the BMC remains the “representative body for the sport and recreation of Mountaineering”.

Four volunteers are sought as Nationally Elected Councillors (NECs) to represent members in each of the key participation activities of rock climbing, hill walking, mountaineering and indoor climbing. Two further volunteer Councillors are sought to represent Mountain Training candidates and members of BMC affiliated Clubs.

This is an exciting time for the BMC as it seeks to expand member engagement and increase grassroots representation, so please consider  volunteering.

Existing roles

The President of the BMC

The BMC Board of Directors

Nominated Director

To balance the composition and skills of our Board, we are now inviting applications for one Director from our membership during an exciting period of organisational development and governance modernisation. Applicants may have derived some of their relevant experience through involvement with our partner organisations.
