From next spring, Nepalese government officials are considering banning those who haven't previously climbed at least one 6,500m peak from tackling Everest's summit. More controversially, plans to ban the disabled, the old and the young are also on the table.

In breaking news, Kenton Cool is about to set off on a long held pipe dream of his to climb the three summits of the Western Cwm. Summiting Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m) and Nuptse (7,861m) in one climb has never been attempted before. It’s a huge task and we're among the first to know.

Despite several teams pulling out, Kenton Cool is at base camp preparing to make his record-breaking tenth Everest summit bid – and fulfill the Olympic pledge made by the 1922 Everest team 88 years ago.
