BMC Equal Opportunities Policy

Posted by Alex Messenger on 29/03/2013

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) aims to ensure that all people, irrespective of their age, gender, ability, race, religion, ethnic origin, creed, colour, social status or sexual orientation, have a genuine and equal opportunity to participate in climbing, hill walking and mountaineering at all levels and in all roles.

That is, as a beginner, participant or performer, and as a coach, leader, instructor, official, manager, administrator or spectator. It is the aim of the BMC to ensure that all present and potential members/employees of the BMC receive fair treatment.

It is the aim of the BMC to provide all its services in a way that is fair to everyone. The BMC has an ongoing commitment to treating people fairly. No participant, volunteer, job applicant, employee, individual, club, associate or honorable member will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, marital status, social class, colour, race, ethnic origin, creed or disability, or will be disadvantaged by conditions or requirements that cannot be shown to be relevant to performance.

We want to say a big thanks to every BMC member who continues to support us through the Coronavirus crisis.

From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t do it without you.

Did you know that we've launched a U27 membership offer for just £1.50 / month? And with full membership from £2.50 / month, it's never been easier to join and support our work:
