BMC office Coronavirus closing information

Following the latest advice from the government, the BMC office in Manchester is temporarily closing from 5pm on Tuesday 24 March. We'll be back as soon as we can - until then stay safe.

With all our staff working from home, we are operating as normal across many areas. However, some aspects of the BMC’s work have changed.

Travel Insurance
You can still buy BMC Travel Insurance but remember that it will not cover any claim in any way caused by or resulting from Covid-19 claims.

Membership
Our online membership is open as normal. But if you’re a new member then we won’t be able to send you a joining pack at the moment.

BMC shop
The BMC shop is now shut.

How to contact us
It’s not currently possible to phone the BMC office, but you can email our staff if you have a specialist question.

If you have an urgent question about any aspect of your BMC membership or insurance, then please email office@thebmc.co.uk. This address is being monitored by BMC staff as normal, although please bear with us as we will be giving priority to the most urgent issues.

Can I go climbing and hill walking?
The BMC and mountain rescue teams advise all climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers to stay in their home area and put all climbing and hill walking on hold.

With government rules, regulations and guidance changing regularly it can be difficult for clubs to keep up with what they are allowed to do. This article summarises the BMC’s understanding of the constraints on club meets and access to huts, based on information available at the time and date of publication. Covid-19 and reopening huts

Mountain huts were first closed at the start of the first lockdown in March 2020. At various points since then huts have been permitted to reopen. The BMC wants to support clubs and other hut operators who are reopening them over the coming months.
