The British Lead Championships is one of the highlights of the UK's competition season, where the country's best Lead climbers battle it out to be crowned British champion. The 2025 edition will be a GB Climbing team official selection event.

Volunteer at the British Lead Championships
Get a front row view to watch Britain's future talented Climbing athletes. To support the event we're looking for volunteers for the roles of competent lead belayers, competitions judges and isolation volunteers (DBS required). Lunch and drinks will be provided as well as a full briefing.

Entries for the championship events will open on Monday 9 December at 8am and close at 12pm (Midday) on Friday 17 January 2025.

16:00-16:30 Final isolation zone opens and closes- All athletes
17:15-18:00 U17 Final
18:30-19:30 Senior Final, followed by award ceremony

Two qualification routes: 6 minute time limit with 50 minutes between each route
Qualifications Additional Information:
Route 1 (or 2 for senior males only) for each category will start at 10:00am, Route 2 for each category will not start before 14:00pm. Senior Males will be split into two groups of 23, the first 23 athletes on start list A will climb on Route 1 and the first 23 athletes on start list B will climb on Route 2. Once your first route is complete, we won’t start on the second route until 14:00pm. This is to ensure there are adequate breaks for the belaying team. This may result in a longer wait time for you between qualification routes.
Semi-finals is one route: 6 minute time limit
Finals is one route: 6 minute time limit
If you cancel your entry to the competition - you will not be entitled to a refund. If the competition is cancelled due to an unforeseen circumstance - you will be entitled to a full refund.

Special Dispensation may be granted to competitors across the BMC National Competitions.** Special Dispensation may only be granted by completing and submitting the online application form.
Special Dispensation will be independently reviewed by BMC workforce currently working outside of the GB Climbing competition pathway, on a case-by-case basis, and any existing special dispensation will be reviewed annually from 1 January to 31 December, aligned with the climbing competition season.
All special dispensation request need to be submitted with supporting evidence. Special dispensation requests submitted without supporting evidence will be returned to the applicant with a request for more supporting evidence. Supporting evidence and a copy of the form should be emailed to safeguarding@thebmc.co.uk

Any athletes under the age of 18 can be accompanied by a parent/carer/guardian who can use the café facilities onsite for the duration of the athlete’s rotation. Coaches can accompany athletes into the warm-up area. There will be a small coaches zone for registered coaches, you will be permitted to enter to watch your athlete only. Please register here.
Athletes who are 14+ can register with the Depot as an Independent climber. If the athlete is not registered as an independent climber, a parent/guardian/carer, must sign an additional supervision form upon arrival at the centre.
Qualifications, Semi-Finals and Finals- tickets will be available to purchase for these rounds. There will be no opportunity to spectate without a ticket. The semi-finals and finals will be streamed and details of locations in Manchester where this can be accessed will be shared in due course. Coaches are able to enter the isolation area with their athlete, they will need to register with the BMC here and there is no guarantee of spectating after the athlete has left isolation unless a spectator ticket has been purchased.
