BMC members are invited to join a social hike, with local BMC volunteer Nicola Merrett guiding the route. This social walk will be a 15km to the summit of High Street and Kidsty Pike.

You are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted and led by BMC member and Lake District volunteer, Nicola Merrett (Hiking Highs). This social walk will start from Hartsop up onto High Street Summit and down to summit Kidsty Pike, returning via Angle Tarn and hopefully catching a glimpse of the Martindale Red Deer, England’s oldest red deer herd. Your leader Nicky knows all their secret hiding spots. We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors!

Walk Details

Walk Grading: Challenging

Distance: Approx. 15 km (9.5 miles)

Ascent: 985 m (3300 ft)

Duration: Approximately 6 hours

Time: Sunday 10th August, 9:00 am for a 9:30 am start

Parking: Honesty box for parking (funds are kindly given by the Hartsop Society to Patterdale School)

Alternative parking at Cow Bridge Car Park next to Brothers Water, and a 5 minute walk into Hartsop

Facilities: No facilities at the car park. Facilities are available at Glenridding, 5 minutes drive away

What to Bring

We’ll cover a range of terrains, so please ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear:

Footwear: Sturdy, water-resistant hiking boots or shoes with good grip

Clothing: Dress in layers, including waterproofs with taped seams and hood as conditions can vary. Please bring an emergency mid-layer. Hat and gloves

Food and Drink: Bring enough food and water for a full day’s walk; there will be no places to purchase refreshments en route

Other Essentials: Although we plan to finish within daylight hours, carrying a small torch or head torch is required for emergencies for this walk

Who Can Attend

Anyone, age 14-18 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on a 1-2-1 basis.

Health Precautions: If you have any health conditions that might impact your participation, please inform us in advance. Carry any required medications, and let the walk leader know if assistance may be needed in accessing them

Covid-19: Please do not attend if you feel unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms
