GB Climbing Team announced for 2025

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) can today announce the climbers who have been named as part of the GB Climbing Team for the 2025 season.
Following standout Boulder and Lead British Championship events and with renewed investment and a commitment to high-performance climbing from UK Sport, the 2025 selection process for Boulder and Lead disciplines brings together the best talent in climbing in the UK. As we move through the next four years and into the Los Angeles 28 cycle, the BMC is dedicated to supporting the athletes, ensuring they have the resources and preparation needed to excel on the world stage.
A total of 76 athletes have been invited to join the GB Climbing Team for the upcoming season. Among them is 2025 British Boulder Champion Jack MacDougall, who returns to the team after competing in the Olympic Qualifying Series, placing 28th in Shanghai and 32nd in Budapest. The 19-year-old’s standout performance came at the IFSC Youth European Championship in Troyes, where he narrowly missed out on a podium finish, securing 4th place. Jack will compete in both Boulder and Lead throughout the 2025 season.
Also returning is Emma Edwards, who will be competing in Boulder after a breakthrough season in 2024. Last year, she claimed two major podium finishes: bronze at the IFSC Youth European Cup and gold at the IFSC Youth European Championships.
Laura Needham, Head of Performance for the BMC, said:
"We are incredibly excited about the 2025 season and the immense potential of our athletes. The commitment, passion, and hard work the climbers and the community demonstrate are incredibly inspiring.”
“This season represents a pivotal opportunity to build on past successes, strengthen the team, and develop athletes for the future. With LA28 now firmly on the horizon, we're determined continue pushing the success of British climbing and ensure the athletes are in the best possible position to achieve success on the world stage.”
The BMC would like to thank UK Sport, Sport England and the National Lottery for their continued trust, collaboration and investment into the BMC to further develop our programmes.
The international season kicks off with members of the team competing at the IFSC European Boulder cup in Munich on 7 – 8 March 2025. Click here to view the full IFSC calendar for 2025.
