Joanna Coates to step down from BMC Board

The board of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) today announces that Joanna Coates is stepping down from her position as Nominated Director on the 18 March 2025.
Joanna has served on the Board and Safeguarding Committee since her appointment in September 2024 and was the Board lead for Welfare and Safety. Prior to this, she provided support for the Performance Department and helped the transitional period in which Paul Ratcliffe was appointed as Chief Executive.
Paul Ratcliffe, BMC CEO, said: “I would like to thank Joanna for her invaluable support and advice for the organisation throughout my first year as CEO. Her experience, knowledge, and guidance have been greatly appreciated, and we wish her all the best with her future endeavours,”
The BMC will begin recruitment to appoint a successor for this role, and the Board will nominate an interim replacement for the Welfare and Safety Lead position.
