Do volunteers get paid?
No, but we’ll cover your costs and give you cheap deals on BMC products. You will also get to hang out with famous people. The chances of this can go up as well as down.
I’m pretty handy when it comes to geophysics/law/proof reading/ecology. Can I be of any help?
Yes please! We’re always looking for professionals who wish to use their skills on behalf of our members.

Come along to your local BMC Area Meeting – there should always be a BMC Officer in attendance along with other local volunteers with whom you can discuss things.
Who is on the Specialist Committees?

They're all made up of experts in that particular field (e.g. metallurgists in the Technical Committee, ecologists in the Access, Conservation and Environment Group). Find out more on the BMC Commmunity Site

Can clubs send representatives to Area Open Meetings?
Absolutely. That person can then vote in a way that reflects their club's wishes.
Is being a volunteer for the BMC good for my CV?
Unless your actions send the BMC into financial freefall, it sure is. We'll be happy to write a reference for you if we like you.
My nearest Local Area Meeting is miles away. It's not local and it's not fair!
Offer to host the next Area Meeting somewhere more convenient for climbers and walkers near you. We can help with the organisation.

How long do Area Meetings go on for?
That depends. They're usually between 1 and 1.5 hours long. They can disolve into a good old chinwag after the business of the meeting is done. Many have slideshows, speakers or short films afterwards. And chips, there will almost always be chips.
