Where to go hill walking: long distance paths

Ideas and inspiration for your next walk, including long distance paths around the UK.

There are a number of long-distance paths around the UK. Walk the width of England via the Coast To Coast, or Wales on the Cambrian Way, explore picturesque coastline on the South West Coast Path or Peddar’s Way (Norfolk), or traverse a mountain range on the Pennine Way.

You don’t have to tackle the whole of a route in one push, but national trails are generally well-walked, sections of the routes are signposted, and they’re relatively close to facilities like shops, pubs and campsites or BNBs. These routes are a great place to start if you’re planning a multi-day walk, just choose a section to suit the time you have available and the distance (and ascent) you’d like to cover.
