Local Area Access Rep
What does a BMC local area access rep do?
An BMC area rep is a locally knowledgeable climber/walker able to help resolve access issues and look after the crags and hills in your area. They contribute to keeping the crags and hills accessible for the whole community. This role could be shared or split (ie: walking access rep and climbing access rep or a specific crag rep)
Key tasks and responsibilities of the role
- Alert BMC to access issues in their area
- Provide BMC Access Officer with local knowledge
- Work to resolve access issues
- Attend landowner site meetings and maintain good relationships with landowners
- You may also want to help organise: crag clean ups, fixed equipment maintenance and crag care, publicity and social media around the work being done and/or conservation volunteering
More information about the role
- Good knowledge of crags and/or walking in the area they cover
- Knowledge of local climbing ethics, best practice & any Area policies associated with these
- Email and/or phone availability and willingness to be contacted
- Communication and diplomacy skills
- Resident in or near the area covered
- Understand and follow relevant BMC policies and guidance
At home and at your local crags/walking areas.
No minimum time commitment varies from 1 – 25 hours a month (role could be shared with others). Should be able to respond to enquiries as and when they arise.
BMC Access Officer support on complex or difficult issues can range from advice by phone/email to attendance at meetings or site visits.
