Connect with new friends from all over the UK and Ireland, climb with like-minded people, go wild over Welsh trad: the BMC Summer Rock Climbing Meet 2025 is returning to North Wales.

BMC Climbing Meets are truly unique. The 2025 Meet, taking place from 14th June to 22nd June, offers a great opportunity to meet a varied bunch of climbers from all over UK and Ireland, to make new friends and climbing partnerships, and to learn about new climbing areas.

APPLY TO ATTEND THE MEET (UK CLIMBERS)

Climbers from Ireland can apply by contacting Mountaineering Ireland by emailing jane@mountaineering.ie with the title "BMC Summer Meet June 2025 application" and requesting to apply.

APPLY TO ATTEND THE MEET (CLIMBERS FROM IRELAND)

The ‘Guests’, from Scotland and Ireland, will be staying at Ynys Ettws, a hut owned by The Climbers’ Club in the Llanberis Pass. The ‘Hosts’ are climbers from England and Wales. Those Hosts not resident in North Wales are offered the option of camping free of charge in the field beside Ynys Ettws. Everyone will be self-catering so please bring provisions, which can be restocked during the week.

During the week participants will climb with other experienced climbers from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. In the evenings there will be presentations given by climbers participating in the Meet.

The aims of the Meet are to:

  • Showcase trad climbing and ethics
  • Make friendships and contacts
  • Expand the horizons of participating climbers
  • Enjoy the fantastic range of traditional climbing offered by North Wales

Please also note that the BMC is aiming to have a good gender split at the meet, ideally 50/50 male/female.

It is also worth noting, BMC International Meets are not just for top-end climbers. The Meets have been, and continue to be, made up of people with a wide range of climbing experience and ability.

Cost

There is no charge for Hosts camping, or staying in their van, at Ynys Ettws.

There is no charge for those Guests staying in the hut or anyone camping or staying in their vans. The event is highly subsidised by the BMC and is supported by the Climbers’ Club and the Rucksack Club. (Camping fees, however, will apply for those who choose to join the Rucksack Club’s Gogarth Meet at the Valley of the Rocks campsite.)

Food

The event will be totally self-catering. This means that all involved will provide their own food and will eat at times that suit them, depending, of course, on space and availability of resources at any given time. In general, climbers should be ready to meet their climbing partner for the day by 9am, and to be back at the hut ready for briefings and slide presentations by 8pm each evening.

Travel

Climbers are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Ynys Ettws. Lift sharing would be appreciated where this is practical.

The BMC does not cover travel costs. There is a great deal of climbing available from the hut without the use of a car. On days when Guest’s or Host’s cars are needed, those sharing should be prepared to contribute towards petrol cost of journeys.

A WhatsApp group will be set up for those accepted on the meet to ease communication and lift sharing etc.

How to apply

Climbers from Scotland, Wales and England please complete the online Application Form by 5pm Wednesday 30th April 2025.

The BMC will contact all applicants from Wales, Scotland and England by email by Wednesday 14th May to let them know the outcome of their application. Those not successful in the first instance may be added to a standby list should anyone who drops out after being offered a place.

Climbers from Ireland need to contact Mountaineering Ireland via the following email address Jane@mountaineering.ie and express their interest in taking part.
