GB Climbing Selection Policies
The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) follows a formal selection process for climbers who aim to compete for the GB Performance Teams at World Championship events, World Cups, European Youth Cups plus the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This page also includes the selection framework for the England Climbing team.

Following the publication of the Competition Categories and Eligibility Policy, which will come into effect on 1 July 2026, you can find the full policy, FAQs and contact details below.
The policy has been developed following a comprehensive consultation process. If you have any questions, please contact us at comps.policy@thebmc.co.uk
Important: GB Teams representing the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) internationally during the 2026 competition season will not be affected by this policy. The policy will apply to international team selection and representation from the 2027 season onwards.
