On Saturday 6 June 2009 the first BMC hill walking meet for parents & children was held in Yorkshire.
Organised by volunteer Anne Chevalier, one of the BMC Yorkshire Area Youth Co-ordinators, this event was for young people and their parents who enjoy hill walking or perhaps who wanted to meet other people in a similar situation and make new contacts.
The group met in Settle at 10am as planned. It was raining heavily at the start of the day which put a few people off attending. However, a determined group of, mainly, mums and children decided to set off on a circular walk from Settle via Attamire Scar. As the walk progressed the weather improved. It stopped raining and the wind dropped. The group even explored a few small caves such as Jubilee cave.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day that was rounded off with refreshments at a local cafe back in Settle. Everyone agreed the day had been well worth it and that they would like to attend a similar day again. Anne said she would like to hold another such day - perhaps near a campsite so that those who wanted to make a weekend of it could easily do so. So, if you're interested, keep checking back as it's going to be a question of "watch this space!"
The BMC would like to say a great big thank you to Anne for organising and running this new event.
