BMC volunteers were thrilled to be part of Clare's BBC Radio 4 programme, Ramblings, during the latest Get Stuck In path repair event in Eryri.

The Get Stuck In team in Eryri were delighted to welcome the BBC's Clare Balding on their social walk around Tryfan after two tough days of path building and maintenance on the southern slopes of Yr Wyddfa in Cwm Llan.

Clare and producer Karen Gregor were creating an episode of their BBC Radio 4 broadcast, Ramblings, which will air at 3pm Thursday 11 June. Find out more about the programme here.

Roy Hammond, BMC Volunteer Leader, said, "We devised a route for Clare around Tryfan, passing Llyn Bochlwyd, that took in over 300 stepping stones that BMC volunteers have been involved with placing over the last four years of Get Stuck In in Eryri. We also showed her some drainage ditches, and how we sweep smaller rocks off pitched stone steps so they don't have a marble effect under people's boots and throw them off balance."

Dan Goodwin, Area Ranger for the National Trust Footpath Team in Eryri, was also on hand to translate the Welsh names and explain how the BMC volunteers work with the National Trust rangers to amplify their efforts on the ground.

Clare took the time to talk to every single volunteer that wanted to chat to her, and described the walk with enthralling commentary. Thank you Clare, we can't wait to listen to the episode about Get Stuck In!

Leave a legacy

A wise person once said, the most noble thing you can do is to "plant trees under whose shade you will never sit" and, likewise, fund path repair projects on which you will never walk and moorland restoration projects which you will never see. If you'd like to make a lasting impact on the landscape long after you've left this world, please consider leaving us a legacy.
