The BMC's Access & Conservation Trust (ACT) has joined the 1% for the Planet Environmental Partners network.

We are thrilled to announce that the BMC's Access & Conservation Trust (ACT) has been approved to join the 1% for the Planet Environmental Partners network! You can now find our charity listed in their directory here.

Head of Access & Environment, Dr. Cath Flitcroft, says, "This is great news for climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers who want to help us protect the fragile upland environments we enjoy exploring. With this partnership we aim to increase our impact on access and conservation in the UK's wild (and not so wild!) places and encourage more businesses to support our work.

"With the climate crisis and increased footfall in popular mountain areas, there is an unprecedented amount of footpath repair, upland conservation and peatland restoration to be done, so we really appreciate every donation. Thanks to all the BMC members and volunteers who have supported ACT so far and we hope this partnership with 1% for the Planet will boost the profile of the charity and allow us to carry out much more access and conservation work going forward."

We are also partnered with Easyfundraising, the best way to donate to ACT free of charge when shopping online, find out how to set it up in three quick, easy steps here.

What's the Access & Conservation Trust?

The BMC's Access and Conservation Trust (ACT) funds vital projects that protect our crags and mountains. It promotes sustainable access to crags, mountains and open countryside through education and conservation projects across Great Britain. ACT currently funds two fantastic projects - Mend Our Mountains and The Climate Project, both vitally important for hikers, mountaineers, climbers, the environment and the wild places we love to escape to.

The Mend Our Mountains campaign funds footpath repair and access projects across the UK. From professional path work on England's most popular peaks like Scafell Pike and Roseberry Topping, to outdoor education in the Cotswolds and 'Get Stuck In' volunteer footpath repair and conservation work that you can get involved with in the Lake District, North Wales and Peak District. We are currently fundraising for an Apprentice Ranger to support the National Trust Footpath Team in Eryri (Snowdonia), find out more here.

The Climate Project is a collection of nature-based solutions and sustainability advice from the BMC's Access & Conservation Trust, helping to protect and restore nature, and address the climate and biodiversity crisis. We currently help Moors for the Future Partnership plant sphagnum moss to restore the Peak District peat bogs, and Seagrass Ocean Rescue in North Wales to plant seagrass to regenerate the lost seagrass meadows around the UK coastline.

What's 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is a global network with thousands of incredible businesses and environmental organisations working together to support people and the planet. It is an accountability partner for businesses that are ready to reject business as usual and give back to environmental partners making a difference around the globe. Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, their members have given hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental partners to date.

Co-founder Yvon Chouinard says, “The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organisations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems."

Since 2002, 1% for the Planet has helped to direct hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental partners around the world. We recognise that we can do more together than we can alone. Our network of businesses and environmental partners drive environmental impact through collective action.
