GB Climbing’s Erin McNeice cruises into the semi-finals in the opening Boulder event of the 2024 IFSC World Cup Series in Keqiao.

McNeice qualified for the semi-finals in fourth place overall after finishing second in group A behind Olympic gold medallist Janja Garnbret.

Speaking to the IFSC, Erin said:

“I’m really excited for tomorrow. The blocks today were really good. It was a bit nerve-wracking as it is the first one of the season but I’m really excited to get another chance to climb tomorrow.

“I prefer two consecutive days of climbing. I think I would be bored if I had a rest day, I’ve already had two and I don’t want another one.

“The OQS is my main focus this season. These events are a warm-up to that. After this event I will probably go around Europe to get some more competition in before heading to Shanghai for the first OQS.”

Molly Thompson-Smith finishes the Women’s Boulder competition in 41st place.

Due to worsening weather conditions, the Men’s qualifications have been cancelled. The men’s competition will resume on April 10 for the semi-final and final events. All athletes will automatically qualify for the semi-finals and the final will see 20 athletes compete compared to the usual eight.

The Women’s Boulder competition continues on Tuesday 9 April with the semi-final round.
