The route

BMC members are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted by BMC Peak Area volunteers, with local BMC volunteer Bev England guiding the route. This social walk will explore Baslow Edge and Curbar Edge, returning alongside the River Derwent. We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors!

Distance: Approx. 11.5 km (7 miles)

Ascent: 320 m (1,000 ft)

Duration: Approximately 5 hours

BMC members will be asked to wear usual clothing appropriate for a day walking in the hills and bring their own food and drink for a full hill day.

Travelling to and from the event.

It is suggested that people use public transport to the start point, and end point. Check local bus schedules via Bus Travel Derbyshire for public transport options

What to bring

Participants will be expected to wear supportive walking boots/shoes with grippy soles and to wear or carry weather resistant clothing (including gloves and headwear) suitable for the conditions prevailing on the day (remember it can be substantially colder up high than it is in the valley). They should also carry sufficient food and water (or other suitable drinks) for a full-day hill walk, plus head torch. There will not be any opportunities to buy refreshments during the walk itself.

Although the walk is planned to finish within the hours of available daylight, participants should bring a small torch/head torch in case of delays. The leader will have an emergency survival shelter and first aid kit. Feel free to bring your own survival shelter if this is in your rucksack anyway!

Participant Information:

This walk is open to BMC members, accompanying friends and family, and anyone interested in BMC’s work, under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Due to restricted access land, dogs are not allowed on this walk.

All participants must book in advance.

Please do not attend if you have COVID-19 or are feeling unwell.

Health Considerations:
