Over the years, there have been many near-misses and serious incidents, especially when stoves are used inside enclosed spaces like tents and bothies. This guide covers the main risks, how to use stoves safely, and what to check to make sure your stove is working properly.

Access improvements, funded by the BMC's Access & Conservation Trust mean the new owners can reignite the popular MassonFest, a 'weekend of dry tooling fun' scheduled for 17-19 October 2025.
Midland Area Walks
You are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted by West Bromwich Mountaineering Club, with member, John Edwards, guiding the route. This social walk, which is part of the club’s annual evening program of walks and will explore an area of surviving greenery in the Black Country, before concluding with enjoying the (by the time we arrive) illuminated view of the Black Country and Birmingham, from the top of Sedgley Beacon. We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable evening walk and for those who can stay on for a little while, drinks at the Beacon Hotel afterwards.

This August, 12 BMC volunteers spent two days on Scafell Pike, Lake District, making a 20m 'megabund' in the latest Get Stuck In event, funded by the Mend Our Mountains campaign from the BMC's Access & Conservation Trust.
