The route
This is a Joint Social Hike for BMC members together with members of the Rucksack Club in the High Peak. A linear walk from Chinley Railway Station SK 0381 8254, going via Cracken Edge, Mount Famine, Jacobs Ladder, and Pennine Way to Edale, ending at Edale railway station. 16km, 10 miles, 580m of ascent.
Return from Edale railway station.
BMC members will be asked to wear usual clothing appropriate for a day walking in the hills and bring their own food and drink for a full hill day.
Travelling to and from the event.
It is suggested that people use public transport to the start point, and end point.
What to bring
Participants will be expected to wear supportive walking boots/shoes with grippy soles and to wear or carry weather resistant clothing (including gloves and headwear) suitable for the conditions prevailing on the day (remember it can be substantially colder up high than it is in the valley). They should also carry sufficient food and water (or other suitable drinks) for a full-day hill walk, plus head torch. There will not be any opportunities to buy refreshments during the walk itself.
Although the walk is planned to finish within the hours of available daylight, participants should bring a small torch/head torch in case of delays. The leader will have an emergency survival shelter and first aid kit. Feel free to bring your own survival shelter if this is in your rucksack anyway!
Participant Information:
This walk is open to BMC members (over 18), accompanying friends and family, and anyone interested in BMC’s work. Due to restricted access land, dogs are not allowed on this walk.
All participants must book in advance.
Please do not attend if you have COVID-19 or are feeling unwell.
Health Considerations:
If you have health issues that might affect your ability to complete the walk safely, inform us in advance. Carry any necessary medications and inform the leader where they are located if needed.
You MUST let us know you are coming
It is a BMC requirement that we have the names (and a contact telephone number) for all participants in advance. If you have not already supplied these then please send to Steve Charles via stevecharles25@gmail.com straight away. Places are limited, so if you (or a member of your party) later change your mind and decide not to come, please be sure to let us know straight away, so we can release your place to someone else.
BMC Participation Statement:
This is an approved BMC event.
The BMC recognizes that climbing, hill walking, and mountaineering are activities with inherent risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

Many people will have visited the summit of Great Gable in the Lake District and looked at the bronze plaque close to the summit commemorating FRCC members killed in World War One.
