The BMC & GB Climbing 2023 domestic competition season drew to a close with a gathering of 220 athletes from across England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland coming together for the YCS Grand Final at Parthian Wall in Southampton.

The Youth A male category witnessed an intense battle for first place, with Orito Brumfitkuroishi (LSES) and Nathan Eaton both (LSES) amassing 145 points each. Ultimately, Brumfitkuroishi clinched the top spot after a closely contested countback.

Similarly, the women's Youth C category showcased incredible strength and skill as Florence Nuttall (LSES) and Bella Ryder (NW) emerged tied at 180 points, a staggering 60 points ahead of their nearest competitor. The competition went to a countback with Nuttall taking first place with two tops.

In the team competition, the North West & Yorkshire region were victorious over the favoured London and Southeast (South) region. Their ascent to first place marked an improvement from their 2nd place position in 2022, elevating their score from 1963 points to a winning total of 2302 points in 2023.

Zoe Spriggins, Competition Manager for GB Climbing, run by the BMC, said: “The YCS is an extraordinary competition, for which we require support from walls, volunteers, and parents across the country to make it happen.

“This competition series is unique as it celebrates the Youth British Climbing scene, welcoming athletes from different regions and skill levels. This year, we have once again witnessed a very bright future for competition climbing in Great Britain and Ireland, and I look forward to welcoming competitors in 2024.”
