The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) can today announce that the 2024 British Boulder Championships will be hosted at Last Sun Dance in Leeds.

This premier event in the British climbing calendar will kick off on Saturday 24 August, with qualification and culminate with the semi-finals and finals on Sunday 25 August.

Leeds will welcome 120 of the best British boulderers for two days of intense competition. In the 2023 edition of the event, held in Sheffield, Leeds-based climber Jack MacDougall claimed the men's trophy whilst Holly Toothill took home the women's title.

The announcement underscores Leeds' reputation as a great sporting city, with a proud track record of hosting high-profile occasions. Leeds, with its rich climbing history dating back 60 years, is the perfect backdrop for these championships, having already hosted the Junior British Lead Championships in September 2023.

Zoe Spriggins, the BMC’s Competitions Programme Manager, stated:

We would like to thank Last Sun Dance for welcoming the British Boulder Championships to Leeds. Growing the profile and audience of our flagship events is vital to the future growth of our sport, the sustainability of our teams, and the development of Britain’s most talented climbers.”

Gregor Tubb, Director and Co-Founder of Last Sun Dance, said:

"Leeds was home to the first climbing gym in the UK, and on the 60th anniversary, we’re proud the city will be home to the 2024 British Championships. This is the first large event we’ve helped to co-host with an external partner, so we look forward to welcoming new people into our wall."

"We have such a great community already using our facilities, so we can’t wait to cheer some of our members on as they take to the comp wall in August."
