Have your say on the future of climbing and walking in the Mendips
If you climb at Cheddar Gorge, enjoy hill walking across the Mendip Hills, or regularly visit the area, now is your chance to help shape its future.
Mendip Hills National Landscape has launched a public survey to better understand how people use and value the landscape. The results will inform a new Recreation Strategy and help build the evidence needed to secure future funding for improvements across the National Landscape, including better public transport and improved access infrastructure.
While the survey is aimed at everyone who enjoys the Mendips, it's particularly important that climbers and hill walkers have their voices heard. Cheddar Gorge is one of the UK's premier climbing venues and the wider Mendips are a popular destination for walking, so it's essential that these communities are represented in the findings.
One key part of the survey allows you to push for improved public transport access to the area.
The survey also asks about how you use the area, what you value most, and whether there are any improvements that would enhance your experience. It is anonymous, takes only a few minutes to complete, and will help ensure future decisions are based on the needs and experiences of people who regularly visit the hills.
The survey is open until 31 August 2026, and there will be further opportunities to contribute as the Recreation Strategy develops.
If Cheddar Gorge or the Mendip Hills are somewhere you climb, walk or simply enjoy spending time, please consider taking part.
