Volunteer with us at the Pen Y Fan clean up | April 25th 2025

The BMC is looking to undertake a clean up of the main paths on Pen Y Fan, in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) whilst surveying what we find.
Pen Y Fan is one of the most popular mountain walks in Wales, but with around 500,000 visitors a year, it leaves a trace. The BMC will be organising a clean up, with help from the National Trust and Trash Free Trails, along its most popular path from Pont ar Daf to the summit. As part of this we will also be surveying what we find to build evidence to support the call for a Deposit Return Scheme, but also into looking at how single use pollution impacts our upland environments.
Volunteer with us
We are looking for excited and positive people to join our walk, meeting at the Pont Ar Daf car park between 9am - 9.30am on Friday 25th April, we will be requiring everyone to sign up upon arrival so please make sure you have enough time to park, get yourself ready, and setting of for the day.
The walk isnt "guided" but we will walk up as groups of three up the mountain collecting and surveying as we go. Please remember to bring kit to look after yourself for the day. As well as carrying personal kit, you'll likely have extra litter to carry, so please ensure you're fit and healthy enough for a full day on the hill.
Getting there
Once at the car park look for the BMC banner.
We would encourage all volunteers to liftshare or catch public transport if possible.
Further information about meetings timings, and what to bring will be sent after you sign up.
In the event that the we have to cancel due to the weather this decision will be made a week before the event.
