Could you be the next BMC Access & Conservation Trust Chair or Trustee?

The BMC's Access and Conservation Trust are recruiting a new chair and a number of trustees to help with the smooth-running of this phenomenal charity that facilitates access, education, conservation and volunteer projects across the United Kingdom to protect our crags and mountains.
The BMC Access and Conservation Trust (ACT) funds and supports projects to protect our cliffs and mountains by facilitating access, education, conservation and volunteer projects across the United Kingdom. Most recently, it has run the successful BMC ACT campaigns Mend Our Mountains and The Climate Project. Becoming a trustee provides an opportunity to apply your skills and experience to this small charity dedicated to supporting conservation, access, education, and volunteering initiatives.
We are looking for individuals to volunteer a small amount of time (4 meetings a year; 3 online and one face to face as well as email correspondence) to help drive the charity, develop a clear future vision, approve funding applications, and search for new avenues of money as well as potential environmental projects to support.
This is a voluntary position; travel and accommodation expenses are payable. Candidates do not need to be a member of the BMC at the time of application but an interest in climbing or hill walking would be useful.

About the roles
We’re seeking one Chair and up to four Trustees with different areas of expertise to help grow our income and ensure our grants deliver maximum impact. We’re looking for passionate and proactive Trustees to join our Board and support our work in meaningful ways. You’ll help guide the charity’s activities, ensure good governance, and work closely with our small executive team. You’ll also be encouraged to visit funded projects, attend meetings in person and online, and support the executive team on initiatives. Full details here.

- Is prepared to engage actively in the charity’s work, offering time and support beyond Board meetings.
Trustee (marketing and communications)

- Brings skills in marketing and communications, not necessarily within the outdoor sector.
- Shares our passion for conservation and access to outdoor spaces.
- Is ready to engage fully with the charity’s work, including supporting the executive team on projects.
Trustee (general)

- Is ready to engage fully with the charity’s work, including supporting the executive team on projects.
Chair
As Chair of ACT, you will guide our mission, leading a committed Board of Trustees and working closely with our small executive team to make a tangible difference to outdoor spaces and outdoor communities. This requires an engaged and proactive leader. You’ll chair meetings, represent the charity to stakeholders, and ensure effective governance. You’ll also actively participate in project visits, fundraising efforts, and collaborations with our founding member, the British Mountaineering Council (BMC). We’re looking for someone who:
