Area Meetings are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for you to discuss issues and influence decisions affecting climbers and walkers locally and nationally, and to meet like-minded people and enjoy a sociable night out (or 'in' on Zoom). Area Meetings also provide the platform for election to a range of volunteer roles within the BMC.

BMC London and South East Area Meeting

The next BMC London & South East Area Meeting will be held on Thursday 23 April 2026 @ The Alpine club, 55 Charlotte Road, London EC2A 3QF

Join us for an entertaining talk from Tim Vaughan

In 1992, when Tim Vaughan was asked if he wanted to abseil down the third largest underground cavern in the world, he jumped at the opportunity. Majlis al Jinn Cave, Oman, is one of the largest known cave chambers in the world, and at the time, very few people had ever explored it . All that was left to do was find the cave itself in the middle of a mountainous desert landscape,  and find a 200m climbing rope with minimal bounce. Descending through Cheryl's drop, considered the most challenging entrance, Tim and the team started a 168m abseil. We are thrilled to have Tim join us to bring the adventure to life, in addition to his other (at times, pretty hairy!) caving experiences.

The meeting will be Hybrid, it would be lovely to see people in person but if you are unable to join us in person please join us virtually via Zoom. Use the link below to join.

The meeting will start at 7.00pm there will be drinks and nibbles available beforehand

To help us manage numbers it would be great if you would register via eventbrite

Join us for our next informal gathering of South East climbers and walkers and get involved in the BMC. Area Meetings are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for you to discuss issues and influence decisions affecting climbers and walkers locally and nationally. All are welcome.
