Sut i sgrialu crib ogleddol Tryfan
Y llwybr enwocaf i fyny Tryfan yw’r Grib Ogleddol: sgramblo gradd un hir a gwefreiddiol sy'n gyflwyniad perffaith i'r gamp. Edrychwn ar sut i fynd i'r afael â’r grib.
Does dim llawer o fynyddoedd i’r de o Glen Coe sy’n denu sgrialwyr fel Tryfan. Mae’r asgell enfawr hon o graig yn esgyn o waelod Dyffryn Ogwen, gyda’i asgwrn cefn crenellog yn ffurfio amlinell bythgofiadwy yn yr awyr. Mae’r dywediad enwog yn dweud na allwch gyrraedd copa Tryfan heb ddefnyddio’ch dwylo, ac ni fydd llawer o fynyddwyr yn dadlau â hynny. Mae yna nifer o lwybrau i'r brig, yn amrywio o sgramblo lefel isel syml i ddringfeydd go-iawn, ond y mwyaf adnabyddus a mwyaf poblogaidd yw’r Grib Ogleddol.
“Mae’r Grib Ogleddol yn glasur oherwydd ei agosrwydd at y ffordd yn ogystal â’i esgyniad serth trawiadol, yn syth am y cymylau,” meddai Andy Jones, hyfforddwr mynydd gyda Seren Ventures ac aelod o dîm achub mynydd Dyffryn Ogwen. “Mae’n sgrechian ‘dringa fi!’”.
Mae gradd (1) y grib a'r dinoethiad cymharol isel o'i gymharu â rhai cribau gradd isel clasurol eraill yn ei wneud yn ddewis da i rhywun sy’n megis dechrau, a sy'n chwilio am gyflwyniad hamddenol i'r gamp. Peidiwch â diystyru'r heriau, fodd bynnag, yn enwedig o ran dewis eich ffordd i fyny’r grib.
Ofnau mordwyo
Gall y dewis o lwybrau sydd ar gael wrth i chi ddynesu at y Grib Ogleddol hyd yn oed herio sgrialwyr profiadol.
“Mae yna lawer o rigoliau bach er mwyn gyrraedd y grib, ond os dewiswch yr un anghywir yna fe all hyn eich arwain at dir anoddach,” meddai Andy. “Mae mordwyo ar Tryfan yn her – yn enwedig mewn tywydd garw. Mae tîm achub mynydd Ogwen yn cael eu galw allan yn aml at bobl sydd ar goll mewn niewl neu'n sownd mewn rhigolau oherwydd dryswch o ran eu safle. Mae’n bosib dod i un o’r rhigolau ac yna methu â dianc.”
Mae'r rhan fwyaf o sgrialwyr yn cychwyn o gilfan yr A5 yn union islaw'r Grib Ogleddol ac yn dilyn y llwybr i'r chwith o Fwtres Garregfilltir.
“Mae graddiant y llwybr yn cynyddu ac yn codi tuag at faes clogfeini mawr,” meddai Andy. “Wrth i chi droi i’r dde i fyny’r clogfeini fe welwch eich hun yn sgrialu i fyny sgri tuag at ris serth o graig, byddwch yn dringo i fyny cyn dilyn rhai slabiau cwarts i barhau i fyny’r grib lydan.”
Y rhan anoddaf
Anaml y mae’r sgramblo ar Dryfan yn dechnegol heriol, ond gall tywydd gwael adael y graig yn hynod o llithrig. Mewn amodau gwael, gall Tŵr y Gogledd deimlo ar ben uchaf ei radd anhawster. Mae’r pinacl cennog hwn yn nodi dechrau’r ymdrech am y copa olaf, yn dilyn rhywfaint o sgramblo cymharol hawdd er yn gynyddol serth.
“Gall tywydd gwlyb a gwyntog wneud i’r rhan yma o’r grib deimlo’n ddifrifol,” eglura Andy. “Mae llawer o bobl yn dod i drafferth pan fyddant yn cyrraedd Tŵr y Gogledd.”
Mae'n rhybuddio, fodd bynnag, mai camgymeriad yw ceisio mynd o amgylch y Tŵr. “Yn aml ni fydd pobl yn hoffi sut mae Tŵr y Gogledd yn edrych, a byddant yn ceisio dringo o’i gwmpas. Gall hyn olygu eu bod naill ai’n mynd ar hyd y llwybr dwyreiniol – a elwir hefyd yn “drawsdaith y dringwr”– ac yn cyrraedd tir mwy difrifol fel Rhigol y Gogledd.
Yn hytrach, anelwch yn uniongyrchol am gopa Tŵr y Gogledd ac i’r brig i weld golygfeydd godigog o Ddyffryn Ogwen. Mae'r cymal olaf yn gymysgedd o sgramblo sy'n eich galluogi i ddewis rhwng sawl opsiwn haws neu anoddach, ac mae pob un ohonynt yn cydgyfeirio at gerrig deuol Adda ac Efa.
Mae'r antur yn parhau…
Y ffordd draddodiadol o ddathlu copa Tryfan yw neidio rhwng Adda ac Efa. Fodd bynnag, os nad ydych chi awydd mentro'ch gwddf ar y naid egnïol hon, yna mae yna lawer o ffyrdd llai brawychus i ymestyn eich antur.
“Beth am fynd i lawr i’r Grib Ddeheuol i ymuno â’r Grib Ddanheddog am ragor o sgramblo?” meddai Andy. “Yna ymlaen i’r Y Gwyliwr (Cantilever) a thros Glyder Fach. Gallech hyd yn oed gysylltu hwn â Chrib y Gribin a disgyn i Lyn Bochlwyd. Fel hyn byddech chi’n gwasgu holl sgrialu clasurol gradd 1 yr ardal i ddiwrnod llawn dinoaethiad, cyffro a harddwch.”
Am ddisgyniad byrrach, ewch i lawr y Grib Ddeheuol i Fwlch Tryfan cyn dilyn y llwybr creigiog i lawr i gyfeiriad Llyn Bochlwyd, ar draws i Fwtres Bochlwyd ac yna yn ôl i’r ffordd fawr.
Gwyliwch rhag y tywydd
Fel pob sgrambl, mae'n well cadw Tryfan am ddiwrnod addas. Gall glaw wneud y graig yn llithrig a bydd cymylau isel yn ychwanegu perygl ychwanegol at her dilyn y llwybr cywir, ond rhybuddia Andy y gall gwynt fod yn broblem hefyd.
“Gall gwynt wneud gwahaniaeth enfawr i’r profiad,” meddai. “Bydd hyrddiau cryf yn golygu bod cerdded a sgramblo yn anodd ar adegau.
“Yn y gaeaf, gall eira, rhew a ferglas ychwanegu at yr anhawster eto fyth. Yn bendant mae angen bwyeill iâ a chrampons mewn amodau gaeafol llawn, yn ogystal â gwybodaeth am sut i'w defnyddio.”
Ond os oes gennych chi ddigon o brofiad i fynd i’r afael â dringfa gaeaf gradd 2, yna dyma un o’r esgyniadau eira gorau o’i fath yng Nghymru.

In the last three years Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park Authority have been very active in working on a number of lower level bridleways around Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and more recently started work on the bridleway connecting Capel Curig to Crafnant. While some of these trails have given opportunities to link communities and provide access to lesser-abled users, the scale and nature of the works on some of the routes that pass through some wild and remote areas has also surprised many users.
