Youth Climbing Series Grand Final to be Hosted in Leeds
Today, the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) can announce that the Youth Climbing Series (YCS) 2024 Grand Final will take place in Leeds at the Big Depot and Depot Leeds Armley, on 23-24 November 2024.
Designed as the ultimate season finale, the YCS will span two days of competition, showcasing both Boulder and Roped rounds. Athletes will represent their regions while vying for individual success.
The Boulder round will kick off the two-day competition event on Saturday 23 November, at the Depot, Leeds Armley. The centre, which opened in June 2022, is Leeds’ largest and most comprehensive bouldering wall. Rounding out the final on Sunday, 24 November, the BMC will take the competition to the 2023 venue of the Junior British Lead Climbing Championships for the roped round at the Big Depot.
Climbers are selected to compete in the Grand Final after qualifying from their respective regional rounds. The competition in Leeds will see the top 260 athletes take to the walls.
Dan James from the Depot Climbing Group, said: “We are excited to announce that the Youth Climbing Series Grand Final will be hosted across both Depot Armley and Big Depot Leeds, two of our newest facilities. Together, these venues will provide the perfect stage for young athletes to showcase their talent and passion for the sport. We can't wait to welcome the best young climbers from around the country to test themselves on the national stage.”
Competitions Programmes Manager for the BMC, Zoe Spriggins, said: “I am delighted to be working with the Depot Climbing Group to bring the YCS Grand Final to two of its centres in Leeds. It will really elevate the experience for our junior athletes, and we look forward to working with the venues to bring the curtain down on a sensational summer of sport climbing.”
“I would also like to take this moment to thank all the venues that have supported the series up and down the country. We’ve held rounds at over 32 walls and could not run this competition without the support of countless volunteer hours.”
The BMC is pleased to confirm that the volunteer recruitment window is open for this event and is accepting expressions of interest from those who would like to join the event team. For more information and to register your interest in volunteering, please click here.
