Field narrowed down as British Boulder Championships progress in Manchester
The qualification rounds at the British Bouldering Championships are complete, with the field cut dramatically from 295 athletes to just 24 per category ahead of Sunday’s semi-finals.
In the senior men’s competition, Max Milne set the pace, topping all five problems to finish first on 124.6 points. Hamish McArthur ended just a tenth of a point behind on 124.5, while Fred Williams completed the top three on 124.1. The trio were the only athletes in the men’s senior field to top every problem.
Harveer Seikham impressed on his senior debut, where he recorded tops on problems one, three and four to finish with 94.3 points and secure progression to the semi-finals. The top 24 athletes advance.
The senior women’s qualification was similarly close at the top. Emma Edwards led the standings with 109.9 points, flashing four of the five problems and claiming the zone on boulder three. Lucy Garlick followed narrowly on 109.6, after flashing problems two and five and topping three and four. Multiple-time British champion Zoe Peetermans finished third on 109.1 points, with tops on problems one, two (flash), three and five.
Meanwhile, Iggy Rinaldi enjoyed a strong debut in the senior category, qualifying comfortably for the semi-finals in eighth place.
“Competing against all these big names I look up to is quiet exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing where I place against them”, Rinalidi said after her qualification round.
In the men’s U17 category, reigning 2025 champion Spike Fullwood finished second on 124.4 points, just behind Ethan Maxfield on 124.7. Fourteen-year-old Arthur Ogden completed the top three qualifiers with 109.8 points.
