Route

Distance: Approx. 21 km

Ascent: 1120m

This will be a 21km circular route and will include an ascent and descent of around 1120 meters. This is a challenging hike and a good level of fitness will be required. The walk will be at a relaxed pace with plenty of opportunity to stop for photos, snacks and short breaks.

Please be aware that the walk will include a mixture of terrain and landscapes with the potential for uneven ground, rough terrain, stiles, stream crossings, fields and hills, tracks and lanes; we may experience adverse weather conditions.

Part of the attraction of valley, hill and mountain walking is the challenge of tackling different terrains, landscapes and weather conditions. Every effort is made to minimise potential hazards; however, the very nature of hill and mountain walking involves a certain level of unavoidable risk of accident and/or injury. By taking part in this activity, you are aware of and accept these risks.

The walk leader reserves the right to vary the intended route from that set out above; this is most likely to be a weather dependent action and the walk leader will aim to keep the event as true to the booking as possible.

It is currently too early to know how the day will be regarding the weather, however… as we know, the Lakes has its own weather system, and we could see anything! Please ensure you are well equipped for all weathers. Some people will be aware of what to bring for a day in the hills but for those who are unsure I have included a kit list below.

What to bring

Attendees will be asked to wear usual clothing appropriate for a day walking in the hills and bring their own food and drink for a full hill day. We’ll cover a range of terrains, so please ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear:

  • Walking boots or walking shoes suitable for mountain terrain
  • Waterproof jacket (waterproof over trousers recommended in case of rain but not essential)
  • Warm mountain clothing (base layer, insulating layer, spare layer in backpack) – Suitable walking trousers/shorts - fast drying material NO JEANS
  • Gloves, warm hat, sunglasses, sun hat, sun cream (you never know!)
  • ·20-30ltr day rucksack
  • Head torch and spare batteries
  • Whistle (not an essential item but good practice to carry this in the hills)
  • Flask and/or water bottle
  • Packed lunch materials and hill snacks

Please note that the walk leader reserves the right to exclude attendees from the event if they are not adequately prepared.

Who can join:

This walk is open to BMC members and accompanying friends or anyone who has an interest in the work of the BMC. Under 18s are welcome, but must be in the company of a parent or legal guardian who will take responsibility for them throughout the event. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept under close control at all times, please indicate on your booking if you will be bringing a dog.

It is a BMC requirement that we have the names and a contact telephone numbers for all participants. We are using Eventbrite to handle bookings.

All participants must book in advance.

Please do not attend if you have COVID-19 or are feeling unwell.

Health Considerations:

If you have health issues that might affect your ability to complete the walk safely, inform us in advance. Carry any necessary medications and inform the leader where they are located if needed.

BMC Participation Statement:

This is an approved BMC event. The BMC recognizes that climbing, hill walking, and mountaineering are activities with inherent risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
