GB Climbing Athletes Take to the Wall for IFSC European Boulder Cup in Klagenfurt
The first round of the IFSC European Boulder Cup commences today in Klagenfurt, Austria, featuring a team of six GB Climbing athletes.
Among them is Lucy Garlick, who recently secured gold at the Youth European Boulder Cup in Curno at the start of April. Garlick aims to leverage this event to refine her competition process further.
Emma Edwards and Jamie Jenkins have both demonstrated impressive performances in the 2024 IFSC Youth European Cup this season. Edwards secured fifth place in Curno and fourth in Soure, while Jenkins reached sixth and fourth place. Both athletes are training their endurance on the competition circuit as they compete in back-to-back events.
Rhys Conlon (13th EYC Curno) and Luca Martins (20th EYC Curno) also join the men’s competition alongside Jenkins, marking their debut in the Senior European Boulder Cup.
Louise Flockhart will make her first international appearance of the 2024 season. A seasoned competitor, the 20-year-old's notable achievement in 2023 was a bronze medal at the IFSC Continental Cup in Graz.
Rachel Carr, GB Climbing coach, said: “It’ll be a great first experience at senior competition for Jamie, Luca, Rhys and Emma coming through and a chance for Lucy and Louise to get one step closer to that podium after making finals at the European Cup in Loveral last year”.
The IFSC European Cup in Klagenfurt, Austria, runs from Friday 26 April to Saturday 27 April.
