The international climbing season got underway this past weekend with the IFSC Boulder European Cup in Munich, Germany, with a strong showing from the eight athletes representing Great Britain.

Men’s Competition

Jack MacDougall secured Britain’s first medal of the season with a silver in the men’s Boulder event. The recently crowned British Boulder Champion delivered an impressive performance, topping boulders two and three and securing zones on one and five, finishing with a total of 69.1 points. This marks MacDougall’s highest-ever result at a senior European Cup, improving on his bronze medal at the IFSC European Cup in Chambéry in 2023. He shared the podium with France’s Thomas Lemagner, who took gold, and Léo Favot, who claimed bronze.

Sam Hammond and Luca Martins also demonstrated strong form, both progressing to the semi-finals. Hammond, in his first-ever senior Boulder European Cup, finished in 12th place, securing zones on boulders one and three and a top on four. Martins placed 20th with 29.1 points, taking zones on boulders one, three, and four.

Making his international debut, Joe Honeyfield finished 62nd with a score of 63.8, securing points on five out of the six qualification boulders and topping boulder one.
